Ketoconazole - Pet, Dog and Cat Medication and Prescription
General Description
Ketoconazole is an antifungal drug effective against fungus of the lymph nodes, skin, nails, respiratory system, bone, and shampoo other parts of your pet’s body. A shampoo that mixes Ketoconazole with Chlorhexidine is used to treat fungal and bacterial skin infections.
Other forms of this drug- Itraconazole and Fluconazole- have been produced to improve upon the number of side effects and effectiveness for certain types of infections. Some fungi have shown resistance to Ketoconazole, nizoral such as Candida albicans.
Giving Ketoconazole with food may assist with absorption and reduce stomach upset.
How It Works
Ketoconazole works by inhibiting production ketoconazole shampoo for dogs of the fungal cell wall. This causes the fungus to be structurally inadequate so that it leaks and dies. In smaller doses, in can be used to inhibit the reproduction of the fungus.

Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature and protected from heat or light.
Missed Dose?
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give your pet two doses at once.
Side Effects and Drug Reactions
Ketoconazole may result in these side effects:
- Inhibited synthesis of cortisone
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Bleeding of the mouth
- Sensitivity to light tadalafil
Ketoconazole also blocks the systhesis of cortisone in the adrenal gland, which in some cases may be a harmful side effect, but when used correctly, it’s an effective treatment against Cushing’s syndrome.
